Celebrating Canada’s National Indigenous Peoples Day

Published: June 20, 2025

On Saturday, June 21, we at Civeo and across Canada mark National Indigenous Peoples Day. It’s a day for us all to celebrate the heritage, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

To honour the day, Civeo will offer a special Indigenous-themed menu at all lodges in Canada, featuring mouth-watering dishes such as poached Saulteaux salmon with saskatoon berries, three sister’s soup, and Assiniboine succotash to name a few.

“We take pride in all of our dishes, menus and special offerings, and that certainly includes when we offer our Indigenous-themed menus on National Indigenous Peoples Day,” said Ray Burke, Corporate Chef. “We do this each year and I’m not sure who enjoys it more: the guests who are sampling Métis boulettes and wildberry crumble, or the staff who get to cook and serve it.”

Celebrating at Civeo HQ

On Tuesday, June 17, staff at Civeo’s corporate headquarters in Edmonton also broke bread together in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day.

After first raising a traditional tipi, Indigenous Reconciliation Speaker, Orest Zwozdesky held a pipe ceremony, a sacred tradition symbolizing the connection between physical and spiritual worlds. After, staff enjoyed a performance from Dallas Arcand Jr., an Indigenous hoop dancer and performer from Edmonton.

“Recognizing Indigenous days of significance, holding and valuing our relationships with our Indigenous partners and friends, it’s just a core part of this organization,” said Andy Fraser, President, Civeo Canada. “And on a day where we all get to eat together, participate in ceremonies and watch performances, it just makes for a wonderful celebration for us all.”
