Celebrating Civeo’s 10-year Anniversary

Published: May 24, 2024

On May 31, Civeo Corporation will celebrate our tenth anniversary operating and trading as Civeo. Over the past decade, Civeo has evolved to meet the needs of our clients and the communities we serve. But while much can change in 10 years, one thing has always stayed the same: our dedication to providing exceptional workforce accommodations and hospitality services in some of the most demanding environments.

“It’s truly an honor to celebrate this 10-year anniversary and to see how far we’ve come as a company,” said Bradley J. Dodson, President and CEO of Civeo Corporation. “I couldn’t be prouder of of each individual in our family of businesses, and the work they do every day to live our values and deliver the services and experiences that our clients and guests rely on.”

A Decade of Growth

The past 10 years have been a period of accomplishments and growth.

Since 2014, the employees in our family of businesses have served over 159 million meals while operating more than 58 million rooms nights

In North America, we expanded our oil sands operating footprint by adding 11 properties with the acquisition of Noralta Lodge. We worked closely with partners in Kitimat, B.C. to build and then expand our Sitka Lodge property. Our mobile contract camps were instrumental in the construction of pipelines bringing oil and gas exports to the Canada’s west coast. The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) recognized our ongoing commitment to Indigenous economic reconciliation with a Gold Level certification in its Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program.

In Australia, we acquired Action Industrial Catering, which had provided a personalized approach to hospitality services for more than 25 years in operations across the Western Australian remote mining market. After re-branding as Civeo Integrated Services, the business has continued to grow rapidly and moved into South Australian markets. Civeo’s Australian footprint currently stands at eight owned villages and 21 integrated services villages.

In the past decade, we have also faced challenges, such as the global pandemic, shifting market conditions, floods, cyclones, and wildfires. In May 2016, an unprecedented forest fire swept through Fort McMurray, Alberta, and surrounding areas – home to many of our Canadian lodges. Upwards of 85,000 people were evacuated, the largest wildfire evacuation in Alberta’s history. Civeo businesses opened their doors to nearly 6,000 evacuees and provided accommodations for over 2,500 first responders. Overnight, we transformed our lodges to support the community.

In 2019 and 2020, Australia suffered one of the most catastrophic bushfire seasons on record, burning across every territory and totaling more than 10 million hectares (25.5 million acres) and more than 1,500 homes. In response to these events, Civeo businesses banded together with the wider community, organizing fundraising events at our villages and sites. Civeo employees and guests raised more than $44,000 AUD to go towards various bushfire efforts.

A Legacy of Experience

While we celebrate Civeo Corporation’s tenth anniversary, we are also mindful of our origin story that brought together two market-leading companies, each with extensive histories and experience in the accommodation and hospitality sectors.

In Canada, that legacy started with Peace Trailer Industries (PTI) in 1977. PTI first rented out mobile offices and dormitories supporting the needs of oil field workers in remote locations. PTI would later grow to become one of North America’s largest providers of workforce accommodations, catering, and hospitality services.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the planet, The Mac began operations in 1995 and grew to become Australia’s largest integrated provider of accommodations services for people working in remote locations. The combination of these two companies set the stage for a decade of growth and exciting possibilities.

Today, Civeo continues to build upon our foundation of service and community, leveraging our decades of experience and expertise to continue to provide quality, comfort, and convenience in remote workforce accommodations.

“Looking back at the accomplishments of our last 10 years only serves to build excitement for what lies ahead,” Dodson said. “I’d like to thank the employees in our family of businesses, clients, partners, and guests for being a part of that story – and our next chapter.”
